This invention provides a fuel battery system comprising at least a hydrogen generator (4), a humidifier (5), and a fuel battery (8). In the hydrogen generator (4), a raw material is supplied, and a hydrogen-containing fuel gas is produced. In the humidifier (5), the fuel gas produced in the hydrogen generator is supplied and humidified by utilizing supplied heat energy and off-gas. In the fuel battery (8), the fuel gas humidified by the humidifier is supplied, and an oxidizing agent gas is also supplied to generate electric power while discharging the heat energy and off-gas. A condenser (6) is further provided for cooling water vapor contained in the off-gas discharged from the fuel battery by heat exchange with a cooling medium to convert the water vapor to condensed water and for supplying the condensed water to the humidifier for humidification. According to the above constitution, a durable, highly reliable and inexpensive fuel battery system can be provided which can satisfactorily and reliably humidify a fuel gas to be supplied to a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell by a simple construction using a humidifier without providing any special auxiliary device.
