Abstract:
Disclosed is a fuel cell wherein good contact pressure can be maintained between a membrane electrode assembly and a separator and increase in the contact resistance can be prevented.
Specifically disclosed is a fuel cell which comprises: a membrane electrode assembly that is surrounded by a frame; and two separators that hold the frame and the membrane electrode assembly therebetween. The fuel cell has a structure wherein a gas seal is provided between the edge portion of the frame and the edge portions of the separators and a reaction gas is circulated between the frame, the membrane electrode assembly and the separators. The fuel cell is characterized in that the frame and the separators are separated and out of contact with each other in a region ranging from the membrane electrode assembly to the gas seal.
