Abstract:
Provided is a fuel cell having little ventilation resistance to oxidant gas or oxidant off-gas in a cell stack and having effectively reduced the risk of gas leaks or resultant catastrophic damage or injury. This fuel cell comprises a cell stack (10) having alternately stacked therein anode plates (12) and cathode plates (13) that interpose a battery cell (11) in a center section and a cell holder (19) in a peripheral section therebetween. A fuel-containing gas-supplying manifold (10F) is integrally formed in one of two facing side sections of the cell stack (10) and a fuel off-gas exhaust manifold (10G) is integrally formed in the other. An oxidant gas supply manifold (10H) is integrally formed in one of the other two facing sides. The manifold is excluded from the other side and exhaust ports (15b) for oxidant off-gas discharged from the cathode side of each level of the battery cell (11) are opened in the side surface of the cell stack (10).
