Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a fuel-cetane-number estimation method and device which can be implemented using a simple and inexpensive configuration whilst inhibiting outbreak of accidental fire when in a combustion state. In this fuel-cetane-number estimation method, a map specifying a relationship between cetane number and a control parameter at which NOx concentration in exhaust gas reaches a prescribed value is prepared in advance. The control parameter is variably controlled, and the transition of NOx concentration in the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine is detected to obtain the control parameter for the internal combustion engine when the NOx concentration has reached the prescribed value, and a cetane number corresponding to the control parameter is estimated on the basis of the map.
