Abstract:
Disclosed is a novel methanol concentration sensor which is hardly affected by electrical noises, the temperature of the solution or convection of methanol. A first partition plate (7) is provided with a pair of electrodes, namely a first electrode (17a) and a second electrode (17b), and an insulating portion (17c) formed between the electrodes for insulating the electrodes from each other. A wiring (16a) and another wiring (16b) are formed on the outer wall of a sensor (2) and respectively connected to the first electrode (17a) and the second electrode (17b). A float (3) is housed in a space defined by the first partition plate (7) and a second partition plate (8) within the sensor. When the methanol concentration is appropriate, the float (3) is in contact with the first electrode (17a) and the second electrode (17b), thereby passing current between the wiring (16a) and the wiring (16b). In other words, the current flow between the wirings indicates that the concentration is within the appropriate range. When the concentration is decreased, the float (3) comes up, thereby cutting the current path between the electrodes. Namely, the electrical disconnection between the electrodes indicates that the concentration is abnormal.
