Abstract:
The present invention provides a fuel pump that prevents the generation of cavitation in the vicinity of a seat member in a valve mechanism. The fuel pump has a plunger that reciprocates, a compression chamber the capacity of which increases and decreases with the reciprocation of the plunger, and a relief valve mechanism that returns fuel to the compression chamber. The relief valve mechanism comprises a relief valve, and the seat member that has a valve contact section on which the relief valve sits. The relief valve is disposed further toward the plunger side than the seat member. The seat member has an annular groove section that forms a space that communicates with the compression chamber between the seat member and a second chamber (fixed section) that covers the outer circumferential surface of the seat member. The space is provided in a position further away from the plunger than the valve contact section.
