Abstract:
It is intended to provide a gas adsorbent which can exhibit a sufficient gas adsorbing
property to a toxic gas component in tobacco when it is brought into contact with
a gas stream with a high flow rate as seen upon passing through a tobacco filter
and releases a smaller amount of a malodorous component such as an amine impurity
derived from the gas adsorbent itself or a free toxic component having an adverse
effect on health such as an aromatic compound. The gas adsorbent is characterized
by satisfying the conditions of (I), (II), (IV) and (V) or the conditions of (I),
(III), (IV) and (V) described below. (I) An average pore radius of the gas adsorbent
in the measurement with a mercury porosimeter is 330 Å or more and 3000 Å
or less. (II) An amount of eluting an amine from the gas adsorbent per unit mass
is 10 µ equivalent/g or less. (III) A content of the monocyclic aromatic
compound represented by the following formula 1 in the gas adsorbent per unit
mass is 4 mg/g or less. (In the formula, R represents a substituent selected from
the group consisting of a hydroxyl group, an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms
and an alkenyl group having 2 to 3 carbon atoms. n is an integer of 1 to 6 and represents
the number of the substituents Rs. In the case where two or more Rs exist, they may
be the same or different from one another.) (IV) A salt splitting capacity is 0.43
milliequivalent/g or less. (V) Acid adsorbing capacity per unit mass to the gas
adsorbent is 1.5 milliequivalent/g or more.
