A gas-barrier member is provided which has gas-barrier properties even when having a low gas-barrier substance content. The gas-barrier member is a member having a layered structure composed of a polymer layer and a monomer-absorbing layer capable of absorbing at least one monomer ingredient for constituting the polymer. The member is characterized in that the polymer layer is a polymer layer containing a gas-barrier substance localized therein, i.e., a polymer layer containing a gas-barrier substance in the state of being unevenly distributed so as to localize either at the interface on the side opposite to the monomer-absorbing layer or in a region near to that interface. The gas-barrier member may further include a covering film superposed on that side of the polymer layer which is opposite to the monomer-absorbing layer. It is preferable that the region near to the interface on the side opposite to the monomer-absorbing layer should extend from the interface on the side opposite to the monomer-absorbing layer to 50% or less of the overall thickness-direction thickness.
