Provided are: a gas barrier retardation film which is able to be further reduced in the thickness, while retaining high gas barrier properties; and an organic EL display which is provided with this gas barrier retardation film. A gas barrier retardation film (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention is provided with a retardation plate (11) and an atomic layer deposited film (12) that is formed on either the front surface or the back surface of the retardation plate (11). This gas barrier retardation film (10) may additionally comprise: a polarizing plate (14) which is laminated on the front surface side of the retardation plate (11); an undercoat layer (15) which is formed from an inorganic material, and which is formed between the retardation plate (11) and the atomic layer deposited film (12); an overcoat layer (16) which is formed on a surface of the atomic layer deposited film (12), said surface being on the reverse side of the surface facing the retardation plate (11); and a releasing film (17) which is removably formed on a surface side of the atomic layer deposited film (12), said surface side being on the reverse side of the surface facing the retardation plate (11).
