According to the present invention, a control pressure during an unloading operation is made variable and a desired control pressure is ensured.　This gas compressor includes: a compressor body which compresses gas and discharges compressed gas; an electric motor which supplies driving force; a power conversion device which supplies predetermined frequency power to the electric motor; at least one among a suction throttle valve disposed on the suction side of the compressor body and a discharge valve for discharging the compressed gas in the discharge piping system to the atmospheric pressure environment; and a control device, wherein an unloading operation is performed to reduce the load on the compressor body by closing the suction throttle valve or opening the discharge valve when the discharge pressure reaches a predetermined pressure. The gas compressor comprises a current value detector that detects a current value input to the power conversion device and outputs the current value to the control device, wherein when the current value reaches a predetermined lower limit current value during the unloading operation, the control device opens the suction throttle valve or closes the discharge valve, and when the current value reaches a predetermined upper limit current value higher than the lower limit current value, the control device closes the suction throttle valve or opens the discharge valve.
