Abstract:
A gas sensor and a drive circuit associated therewith are incorporated in a portable electronic device. The gas sensor is intermittently heated to an operation temperature and gas is detected, and is otherwise left to stand at ambient temperature. When a sensor of the portable electronic device detects that the portable electronic device is placed in a confined space, heating of a metal oxide semiconductor to the operation temperature is ceased. When the sensor detects that the portable electronic device is taken out of the confined space, heating of the metal oxide semiconductor to the operation temperature is resumed. Staining of the gas sensor due to siloxane, etc., is prevented.
