Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a gas diffusion electrode base which achieves a good balance between short-circuit resistance and flooding resistance, while having high durability and good power generation performance.
[Solution] A gas diffusion electrode base which comprises a microporous layer 1 on one surface of a conductive porous base, and which is configured such that: the microporous layer 1 has a dense part A and a dense part B; the dense part A is a region that contains a fluororesin and a carbonaceous powder having a primary particle diameter of from 20 nm to 39 nm (inclusive); the dense part A has a thickness of from 30% to 100% (inclusive) when the thickness of the microporous layer 1 is taken as 100%, and has a width of from 10 μm to 200 μm (inclusive); and the dense part B is a region that contains a fluororesin and a carbonaceous powder having a primary particle diameter of from 40 nm to 70 nm (inclusive).
