Abstract:
The present invention is a gas generator. In a cylindrical housing, in order from a first end part-side, provided are an ignition means chamber, a gas inflow chamber which includes a gas discharge port, and a pressurized gas chamber. The area between the pressurized gas chamber and the gas inflow chamber is closed using a rupture plate which is fixed to an annular fixing part. A rupturing means for the rupture plate is disposed between the ignition means chamber and the gas inflow chamber. The rupturing means includes a base part, a rod main body part which is extended from the base part to the rupture plate side, and a diameter expanding part of the leading end of the rod main body part. When the gas generator is operating, the base part moves in the axial direction, the diameter expanding part penetrates the rupture plate and is then positioned within the pressurized gas chamber, and the rod main body part is set in a position opposing the annular fixing part in the radial direction. The pressurized gas passes through a gas passage that includes a first annular passage in which the width between the diameter expanding part and the annular fixing part changes and a second annular passage which is between the rod main body part and the annular fixing part, and thereafter the pressurized gas is discharged from the gas discharge port. The cross-sectional area of the second annular passage becomes the smallest between the area of the smallest width portion of the first annular passage and the total area of the opening of the gas discharge port. When the cross-sectional area of the second annular passage is Q, the area of the penetrated rupture plate is A1, and the area of the smallest width portion of the first annular passage is A2, Q<(A2-A1) is satisfied.
