Abstract:
The present invention is a gas generator that has a gas generation chamber in a cylindrical housing, the gas generation chamber housing a gas generating agent and an ignition means. The ignition means is disposed on a first end surface of the cylindrical housing, and a second end surface on the opposite side from the first end surface is closed by a closing member. The closing member has a fragile portion, the shape of which is such that a first surface of the closing member facing the gas generation chamber is partially cleaved when receiving gas pressure containing combustion gas, and then the cleaved portion is bent to the opposite side from the first surface in the axial direction and forms an opening. After the closing member is partially cleaved along the fragile portion, the cleaved portion is bent from an uncleaved portion and forms the opening, the opening serving as a gas exhaust port for the combustion gas. The gas generator also has a control means for effecting control such that the angle between a second surface of the closing member and the bent cleaved portion is 5 to 85 degrees. The control means is a member that is adjusted in spacing so as to make contact with the cleaved portion, or a supporting portion that protrudes from the second surface of the closing member and is formed at a position making contact with the cleaved portion.
