Abstract:
The present invention provides a gas sensor element and gas sensor having excellent responsiveness and sensitivity at low temperatures. Provided are: a gas sensor element 1 that has a solid electrolyte body 2, which comprises an oxygen ion-conductive ZrO2 ceramic, and a reference gas-side electrode 3 and measurement gas-side electrode 4, which are provided on one surface 21 and the other surface 22 of the solid electrolyte body 2, respectively; and a gas sensor that is provided with said gas sensor element 1. The reference gas-side electrode 3 and measurement gas-side electrode 4 are formed at positions facing each other with the solid electrolyte body 2 therebetween, and both comprise a precious metal or precious metal alloy. A mixed layer that contains a mixture of a precious metal or precious metal alloy and the ZrO2 ceramic and has an average thickness of 800 nm or less is formed between the solid electrolyte body 2 and the reference gas-side electrode 3.
