A gas sensor (1) comprises: a solid electrolyte body (2) provided with a measurement-target-gas electrode (21) and a reference-gas electrode (22); a heater (3) arranged on an inner peripheral side of the solid electrolyte body (2); a housing (4) that keeps the solid electrolyte body (2) on the inner peripheral side thereof; and a cover (5) that covers the solid electrolyte body (2). The cover (5) includes a large-diameter cover section (51) that is positioned on the outer peripheral side of the solid electrolyte body (2), a small-diameter cover section (52) that is formed so as to be adjacent to the distal end of the large-diameter cover section (51) and so as to have a smaller diameter than the large-diameter cover section (51), and a step section (53) that links the small-diameter cover section (52) and the large-diameter cover section (51) to each other. A first through hole (521), in which the entire periphery of the hole is stamped out, is formed in the distal end of the small-diameter cover section (52). A second through hole (531), in which the entire periphery of the hole is stamped out, is formed at a plurality of locations in the circumferential direction of the step section (53).
