Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a gas sensor that can improve both water-wetting resistance and responsiveness by using a single-layer protector. [Solution] A gas sensor 1 comprises: a sensor element 21 that has formed at the leading-end side thereof a detection unit 22 for detecting a gas to be detected through an element introduction hole 25; a main fitting 11; and a single-layer cylindrical protector 51 fixed so as to surround the leading-end side of the main fitting. The protector has a gas introduction hole 56 oriented to the rear-end side and a gas discharge hole 53 located closer to the leading-end side than is the gas introduction hole. A gap G is formed along the axial line O direction between the gas introduction hole and a leading-end facing surface 12a of the main fitting. When the gas introduction hole is seen along the axial line toward the rear-end side, the area size Sh that the leading-end facing surface of the main fitting faces is at least 1/2 of the opening area size Sg of the gas introduction hole, the entirety of the element introduction hole is located closer to the leading-end side than is a most-leading end 12f of the leading-end facing surface of the main fitting, and the length L1 of the gap G is smaller than the diameter D of the gas introduction hole.
