A gasification apparatus 14 for generating produced gas by gasification of a carbon-containing solid fuel, is provided with: a gasification furnace 101 for allowing the produced gas to flow therein; a coal economizer 134 provided in the gasification furnace 101 and for exchanging heat with the produced gas; a hanger pipe 103 for supporting the coal economizer 134 and allowing at least a portion of water supplied from a water supply pipe 157 to flow therein; a coal economizer inflow line 156 for allowing water flowing out from the hanger pipe 103 to flow into the inflow side of the coal economizer 134; a bypass pipe 161 branching out from the water supply pipe 157 and for allowing water other than the water supplied to the hanger pipe 103 to flow into the coal economizer inflow line 156; a bypass valve 162 provided in the bypass pipe 161; and a control device 105 for controlling the degree of opening of the bypass valve 162 according to a load on the gasification furnace, so as to adjust the amount of water supplied to the hanger pipe 103 and to the bypass pipe 161.
