Disclosed is a gate device that, when used at a station platform, is mostly unaffected by the type of stopped train, the height of the station platform ceiling, and the like. A fixed supporting column (11) is erected on each of both sides of an entrance/exit portal. A mobile supporting column (12) is attached to each fixed supporting column (11) so as to be freely slidable in the vertical direction with respect to the fixed supporting column (11). Furthermore, a restraint bar (13) straddles adjacent mobile supporting columns (12). Also, a mobile-supporting-column-driving unit slides each mobile supporting column (12) up and down with respect to the fixed supporting column (11) to which the mobile supporting column (12) is attached. The mobile supporting columns (12) slide relative to the fixed supporting columns (11) to a position that protrudes above the upper ends of the fixed supporting columns (11).
