Abstract:
Provided are a communication system, method, a gateway device, method, system, and program which can give a sufficient resolution and image quality to an image signal of a dynamic image or a still image received from a first terminal connected to a first network when transmission is performed to a second terminal connected to a second network, and can give a sufficient resolution and image quality at the first terminal to an image signal containing the dynamic image or the still image transmitted from the second terminal and received by the gateway device and then transmitted to the first terminal. The communication system includes: a first network (130), a first terminal (120) connected to the first network, a second network (170), a second terminal (190) connected to the second network, and a gateway device (150) connected to the first and the second network. The gateway device (150) receives an image signal containing a dynamic image or a still image signal transmitted to the first network (130) from the first terminal (120) and executes conversion to spread the resolution and the image quality on the received image signal before transmitting the converted image signal to the second terminal (190) connected to the second network (170). Moreover, the gateway device (150) receives an image signal containing the dynamic image or the still image transmitted from the second terminal (190) to the second network (170) and outputs the received image signal to the first network (130). The first terminal (120) receives the image signal outputted to the first network (130) from the gateway device (150), decodes the image signal, and executes a conversion to spread the resolution and the image quality before displaying the image signal.
