A gear assembly for an automatic transmission comprises a gear and a clutch. The gear comprises a gear ring (1) and a gear piece (2). The clutch comprises a piston (4), a balancing piston (5), a steel sheet (7), a friction plate (8), a clutch outer hub (9), a clutch inner hub (11), a return spring (25) and a connecting disk (15). The gear and the clutch are fixedly connected to form an integrated structure. A gear shaft (23) is arranged at the inner side of the gear piece (2), and the gear piece (2) and the gear shaft (23) constitute an integrated structure. The piston (4), the balancing piston (5), the return spring (25) and the connecting disk (15) of the clutch are sleeved over the gear shaft (23), thereby combining the gear and the clutch in a multi-gear automatic transmission case into a whole, so that the gear piece (2) of the gear is used as a part of a pressure oil chamber (18) of the clutch. The space of the transmission case can be fully utilized, and the volume of the transmission case is decreased. The gear and the clutch do not need to be separately designed, thus reducing the quantity of parts and components, conserving materials, and lowering costs.
