This gear mechanism is provided with a rotating body, a first gear, a second gear, and a reinforcing member. The rotating body is configured to be rotatable about an axis of rotation, and the shape thereof as seen from the axial direction of the axis of rotation is an elliptical shape. The first gear includes: a first base portion which has a first outer circumferential surface and a first inner circumferential surface, and which has a hollow cylindrical shape configured to be deformable by insertion of the rotating body in the axial direction of the axis of rotation; and external teeth formed on the outer circumferential surface. The second gear includes: a second base portion which has a second outer circumferential surface and a second inner circumferential surface, and which has a hollow cylindrical shape arranged in such a way as to cover the external teeth; and internal teeth which are formed on the second inner circumferential surface in positions corresponding to the external teeth, and with which a portion of the external teeth engage in accordance with the deformation of the first base portion due to rotation of the rotating body. The reinforcing member is disposed abutting a region of the second outer circumferential surface corresponding to the region of the second inner circumferential surface in which the internal teeth are formed.
