Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to provide a gear rolling method that uses circular dies with which teeth of an appropriate shape can be obtained and with which movement does not occur during processing. A work piece having a cylindrical outer surface is supported on a support part so as to be capable of rotating freely around the rotational axis of the cylindrical outer surface, and a pair of circular dies that rotate around an axis parallel to the axis of rotation are arranged so as to oppose one another with the work piece therebetween. The pair of circular dies is pressed against the work piece while their rotational speed and the pressing amount are controlled synchronously by a drive mechanism. The outer diameter of the work piece is set such that when the rotational state wherein the circular dies and the work piece rotate together changes, from a friction wheel state that is based on the mutual pressing forces, to a toothed wheel state that is based on the engagement of the work piece and the circular dies, with tooth grooves being formed in the work piece by the pressing of the circular dies, the length when the outer circumferential length of the bottom of a tooth groove is divided by the number of teeth to be formed is identical to the addendum circle pitch of the circular dies.
