Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a method for manufacturing a glass panel unit in which it is possible to reduce the amount used of a getter material and to realize gettering performance at relatively low temperatures at which components surrounding the getter material are not readily damaged. This method for manufacturing a glass panel unit includes: a step for heating an unprocessed getter material 1a to a temperature higher than a prescribed temperature Te and producing a getter material 1; a step for producing a temporary assembly 100 provided with a first glass sheet 200, a second glass sheet 300, a frame-shaped thermofusion sealing material 410, an internal space 500, a gas adsorbent 60 that has the getter material 1, and a discharge opening 700; a step for fusing the thermofusion sealing material 410 by heating to thereby form a frame body 411 that is air-tightly joined to the first glass sheet 200 and the second glass sheet 300; and a step for heating the gas adsorbent 60 to the prescribed temperature Te while depressurizing the internal space 500 by discharging air through the discharge opening 700.
