Abstract:

Disclosed is a glass composition having high elastic modulus and low electrical conductivity. Also disclosed is a glass spacer for electron beam excitation type displays having high elastic modulus and low electrical conductivity, which enables to increase the aperture ratio of an electron beam excitation type display. Specifically disclosed is a glass composition essentially composed of, in mass%, 10-40% of SiO₂, 0-6% of RO, 0-50% of La₂O₃, 1-50% of Y₂O₃, 10-60% of La₂O₃ + Y₂O₃, 0-30% of Al₂O₃, 0-6% of B₂O₃, 0-5% of ZnO, 0-10% of TiO₂, 0-10% of ZrO₂, not more than 1% of Fe₂O₃ and not more than 0.5% of R'₂O. In this connection, R represents at least one element selected from Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba, and R' represents at least one element selected from Li, Na and K.
