Abstract:
When a band-shaped glass film 3, which is laid flat, is transported in the length direction thereof and cleaved in the width direction thereof, this glass film production method executes: a cleavage starting point forming step P4, in a first section S1 of a transport path, of forming a cleavage starting point 4 along the width direction on the upper surface 3a side; and a snapping-cleavage step P5, in a second section S2 of the transport path, of bending a portion 3f, where the cleavage starting point 4 has been formed, in such a manner that the upper surface 3a side becomes convex and cleaving the band-shaped glass film 3 by snapping. Within the second section S2, a direction reversal portion 25 is disposed where the transport path reverses direction midway in such a manner that, as the portion 3f where the cleavage starting point 4 has been formed passes through the direction reversal portion 25, the portion 3f where the cleavage starting point 4 has been formed is bent.
