Abstract:
Disclosed is a glass for illumination which is capable of shielding ultraviolet light on the longer wavelength side such as 313 nm. In this glass for illumination, a TiO2 crystal is hardly produced and phase splitting hardly occurs. Also disclosed is an outer container for fluorescent lamps which uses such a glass for illumination. Further disclosed is a method for producing such an outer container for fluorescent lamps. Specifically disclosed is a glass for illumination characterized by containing, in mass percentage, 50-78% of SiO2, 12.2-25% of B2O3, 1.4-11% of Al2O3, 0-5% of Li2O, 0-6% of Na2O, 0-8% of K2O, 3-8% of Li2O + Na2O + K2O, 0-10% of MgO, 0-10% of CaO, 0-20% of SrO, 0-20% of BaO, 0-15% of ZnO, 2.1-3.7% of TiO2, 0-0.05% of Fe2O, 0-10% of ZrO2 and 0-5% of As2O3 + Sb2O3. This glass for illumination is also characterized in that TiO2/Al2O3 is within the range of 0.2-2.6.
