Abstract:
This manufacturing method of a glass substrate for use in an information recording medium involves: a process for preparing a glass substrate containing a crystallized glass material and having a main surface and an end surface, an end surface polishing process (S14) for performing polishing processing on the end surface, a first main surface polishing process (S151) for performing coarse polishing processing on the main surface, and a second main surface polishing process (S152) for performing precision polishing processing on the main surface. In the first main surface polishing process (S151), a slurry is used that contains zirconium oxide or zirconium silicate as the abrasive grains. The end surface polishing process (S14) includes a step (S142) for polishing the outer peripheral end surface of the glass substrate using a slurry that contains cerium oxide as the abrasive grains.
