Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and compositions for nanotechnology-based therapy of mammalian diseases. Also disclosed is a gold-in-porous silicon nanoassembly that is effective in the targeted, localized, treatment of human hyperproliferative disorders, including, for example, cancer of the breast. Using systemic administration of the nanoassembly vector, direct thermal ablative therapy is facilitate upon localized application of near-infrared energy to the target site, wherein the gold nanoparticles release heat to destroy the cancer tissue.
