A grooming device (10) having a first unit (12) and upper hand-held unit (32) connected to the first unit (12). A vacuum unit (14) in the first unit (12) creates a vacuum air flow in a vacuum chamber (38) in the hand-held unit (32), while a heating unit (16) in the first unit (12) generates a heated air flow to a heat chamber (40) in the hand-held unit (32). The heat chamber (40) and the vacuum chamber (38) are contained within a vessel (36) in the hand-held unit (32). The heat chamber (40) is separated from the vacuum chamber (38) by a wall (39) having regularly spaced pores (46). When both the vacuum unit (14) and heating unit (16) of the device (10) are switched on, the vacuum flow in the vacuum chamber (38) pulls heated air from the heat chamber (40) through pores (46) in the wall (39) so that dry, heated air flows along the length of the vessel (36). Thus, hair placed in the vacuum chamber (38) of the hand-held unit (32) is exposed to the combined effect of the vacuum and flow of heated air. In a further embodiment, the wall of the vacuum chamber (101) is heated by a heating element (105), thereby causing the vacuum flow to be heated.
