Abstract:
A groove forming method according to an embodiment includes a groove forming step for forming, while rotating a cylindrical body (30) around a central axis (CL) of the cylindrical body (30), an annular groove (33) which is coaxial with the central axis (CL) on an outer circumferential surface of the cylindrical body (30). The groove forming step includes: a positioning step for positioning a first roller (11) on one side of the cylindrical body (30) in a radial direction, and positioning a second roller (12) on the other side of the cylindrical body (30) in the radial direction; a contact step for moving, after the positioning step, the first roller (11) and the second roller (12) toward an radially inner side of the cylindrical body (30) to cause the rollers to be brought into contact with the cylindrical body (30); a pressing step for moving, after the contact step, the first roller (11) and the second roller (12) toward the central axis (CL) of the cylindrical body (30) to press the cylindrical body (30); and a separating step for causing, along with the pressing step or after the pressing step, the first roller (11) and the second roller (12) to be relatively separated in the axial direction so as to form the annular groove (33) on the outer circumferential surface of the cylindrical body (30).
