Description

HAIR BRUSH

Technical Field: This invention is directed to hair brushes.

Background Art:

The conventional hair brush is provided with a head portion for supporting the bristles that is Q rigid and unyielding when the bristles encounter snarled and tangled hair groupings. Consequently, hair is broken off or pulled at their roots causing pain to the person whose hair is being-brushed, as . well as the loss of the hair. To off-set the rigid 5 bristle supporting member, the bristles themselves are constructed of exceedingly pliable material which does not permit a proper combing and brushing of. the hair nor can the bristles massage the scalp as the brush moves through the hair. The present inven¬ 0 tion contemplates avoiding the necessity of using too pliable bristles to compensate for the rigid head portion by providing pliable bristle supporting head portions with moderately pliable bristles.

5 Summary Of The Invention:

Therefore, a principal object of the present invention is to provide a ha r brush with a plurality of yielding bristles supporting head portions with conventional moderately pliable bristles which permit 0 the yielding of the bristles as snarled and tangled hair groupings are ' encountered as the hair is being brushed.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a hair brush with a plurality of pliable 5 bristles supporting head portions formed by slotting the head portion and utilizing bristles that are less pliable than comparable conventional bristles.

Another object of the present invention is to

provide a hair brush having pliable bristle suppor¬ ting members as well as pliable bristles that permit te readily unsnarling of tangled hair while massaging the scalp without breaking the hair or pulling the hair out at its roots. A still further object of the present invention is to provide a hair brush characterized as above with bristles having an enlarged head portion for massaging the scalp as the hair is being brushed.

With these and other objects in view, the inven- tion will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connec¬ tion with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this disclosure, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined.to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modi¬ fications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appen¬ ded claims.

Brief Description of the Drawings:

Figure 1 is a top plan view of a hair brush constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof. Figure 3 is an end view.

Figure 4 is a top plan view of an alternate structure of my invention.

Figure 5 is an end view thereof.

Figure 6 is a similar view of an alternate con- struction of my hair brush.

Description Of The Preferred Embodiments:

Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals are used to designate similar parts, and especially to Figures 1-3 inclusive, the numeral 10 refers to a hair brush constructed in accordance with my inven¬ tion and consisting of head portion -H- and a handle portion 11 extending from the head portion -H- and

substantial copla ar relation thereto, the handle portion having an undulated upper surface of hills and valleys as shown for accommodating the fingers of the operator's hand gripping the brush 10.

The head portion -H- is provided with a plural- ity of longitudinally disposed slots 12 forming a plurality of parallel disposed and elongated support members 13 for upwardly extending bristles 14.

My hair brush 10 is preferably constructed of plastic in monolithic form by an injection molding 0 process with the plastic forming support members 13 being substantially pliable whereby the bristles 14 when brushing through snarled and knotted hair will not tear the hair, but instead will yield and thereby assist in untangling the snarled hair. The tips of 5 the bristles 14 massage the scalp at the same time without scratching the scalp as occurs with stiff hair bristles in the conventional hair brushes.

Referring to Figures 4-6 inclusive, there is shown an alternate construction of my hair brush 20 - consisting of a cylindrical head portion -C- from which a handle portion 21 extends in substantial coaxial relation thereto. The cylindrical head portion -C- is hollowed by means of a substantially coaxial bore 15 extending the full length thereof. 5 The bristles 23 extend outwardly about the entire curved outer surface of the cylindrical head portion -C-. The latter is provided with radially disposed slots 24 to form elongated base portions 25 for supporting the bristles 23 and similar to the elong- Q ated bristle support members 13 of Figures 1-3 inclu¬ sive, the support members 25 are substantially pliable which yield as the brush 20 brushes through the hair on a person's head.

Whereas the hair brush 20 is constructed by an 5 injection molding process to form the head portions

-C-, handle portion 21 and bristles 23 as a single part, thereby making my hair brush 20 monolithic in characteristic, an alternate structure shown by

Figure 7 is constructed of two parts, namely, the combined handle and head portions as one piece with openings 26 formed in the head portion (See Figure 7) for receiving bristles 27 that are formed separately. The bristles 27 are provided with a slightly enlarged

5 scalp contacting portion 28 which serves to massage the scalp during the brushing of hair. As in connec¬ tion with my hair brush 10, the hair brush 20 has bristles 23 that are supported on pliable and elong-- ated support members 25 that yield substantially as

- jQ the bristles 23 move through the hair to untangle the snarled hair groupings as the ends gently massage the scalp of the person whose hair is being brushed.
