Abstract:
A hand held oral irrigation device (50) having a tip (56) for dispensing fluids. In one example, an oral irrigation device (50) includes a body portion (52), and a reservoir (54) for storing fluids, wherein the body (52) and/or the reservoir (54) define a first major diameter (66) at a lower end of the oral irrigation device (50), and define a second major diameter (68) at an upper end of the oral irrigation device (50), the first major diameter (66) being larger than the second major diameter (68). In this example, by providing such a geometry for the device (50), a user can grasp the device with one hand about the second major diameter (68) during use. In another example, the body includes a pump (86) for pumping fluids from the reservoir (54) to the tip (56), wherein the pump (86) includes an inlet valve (230) and an outlet valve (232), the inlet valve (230) including a reed valve made of flexible fabric material. The outlet valve (232) may also include a reed valve made of flexible fabric material.
