Abstract:
A handpiece capable of preventing it from being sucked back by a simple structure and a method of driving the handpiece. The handpiece (10) comprises a grip part (11) held by an operator, a head part (15) formed at the tip part of the grip part, an impeller (55) rotatably stored in an inner space part formed in the head part, an air supply hole (25) for supplying air toward the impeller and a discharge hole (28) for discharging the air supplied to the impeller, one or a plurality of damping spaces (47) in which air having a centrifugal force given by the rotation of the impeller is fed and accumulated in a pressurized state, passages (66), (67), (68), and (34) for releasing the pressurized air accumulated in the damping spaces from the periphery of a tool rotating together with the impeller to the atmosphere, and a side wall part (44) positioned between the discharge hole and the impeller and providing a resistance to the air moving from the impeller to the discharge hole.
