Abstract:
In the case of a handwritten character recognition of an on-line handwritten character, a simple and high-performance character recognition can be performed even for an input with one stroke such as a square style of Chinese handwritten character. Each handwritten character inputted is grasped in a parameter expression and is approximated with polygonal lines. The angle made between a reference axis and each polygonal line approximated is determined, as a vector from the starting to terminal points, into a polygonal angle series. The external angle series of the angular apexes of the polygonal lines obtained is determined, and the sum of the external angles of a sequence of an identical sign of plus or minus is set to the winding angle series. The broad feature of the individual series determined and the local feature and the quasi-local feature in the individual curve portion divided according to the winding angle series are hiearchically and separately extracted. The extracted result and a template prepared for the character to be recognized are compared to perform the character recognition.
