Description:
A hanging and stretching system and method for covering the horizontal and vertical surfaces of a room with a cladding material

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to an alternative way to cover walls and ceilings of rooms with a cladding material. The cladding material can be textile, fabric-like material, fabric, artificial fibre, plastic, or other similar materials that can be stretched over a chassis.

STATE OF THE ART

DE10039257 is known from prior art that relates to renovating uneven facades of buildings with a fixed pendent and stretching textile material covered with polymer/resin. The textile material is placed onto the fagade of a building, and it is shifted as close to the existing covering of the fagade as possible. Thereafter, the cladding material is stretched and covered with plaster or other appropriate finishing material. The current solution relates to covering the outside surface of buildings where subsequent processing of the material is necessary. The fixed material is stationary and in a motionless state, and it cannot be replaced later with a material of different appearance. No weight elements or chassis are used for stretching, the material is stretched from its bottom end. This solution cannot be used for covering horizontal surfaces. US5242006 describes the weight element of a fabric and a method for using it. The weight element of an opened fabric, in which the body and its covering are attached to each other by quick connection. Different weight elements can be placed into that. In terms of this solution, the weight element does not have a direct contact with the fabric or the cladding material, and it cannot be used for covering horizontal surfaces. The objective of the invention is not stretching the fabric, but to fix it into a certain position using different mechanisms.

FR270371 1 (14.10.1994, HOSTEING GUY) describes a device for detaching a false ceiling or false wall, consisting of a sheet of plastic which is fastened by its hook-forming border onto the shoulder (step) of a section fixed to the wall or to the ceiling. The objective of the invention is to facilitate demounting of the false ceiling or false walls made up of a plastic sheet which is clutched by its border forming hook on the shoulder of a section affixed with the wall or the ceiling.

GB1550704 (15.08.1979, TOMBU G) provides an apparatus for attaching a wall covering sheet to a wall, comprising a base plate which can be fixed to a wall surface, a keeper rod for attaching one end of a said covering sheet to the base plate and a pivotable clip member which can be connected to the base plate and used for tensioning the sheet.

Summary of the invention The objective of the present invention is to provide a method for covering interior surfaces that is cheap and can be applied quickly. The advantage of the proposed solution is that the cladding material can be easily and quickly removed from the wall/ceiling and replaced or washed (e.g. replacing a material of certain colour with a material of another colour for visual effects). It is possible to finish warped, unsightly and uneven base surfaces, optionally giving them an exclusive appearance.

The objective of the present invention is covering horizontal and vertical surfaces of rooms with textile, fabric, artificial fibres, plastic, or other similar materials using a carrying chassis with stretching and hanging properties. A carrying chassis is attached to the ceilings or walls of rooms. Then, the desired cladding material is fixed, onto which stretching elements are previously attached. In case of horizontal surfaces (ceilings), the stretching elements are attached to the ends of the cladding material. In case of vertical surfaces (wall), the stretching elements are attached to the upper end of the cladding material and the bottom end of the cladding material is fixed stationarily. With one chassis type it is possible to install together the coverings of both horizontal as well as vertical surfaces at once. It is possible to perform the covering of ceilings or walls of rooms both partially (e.g. one wall, a part of a wall or ceiling) as well as fully (all visible surfaces of walls and ceilings of a room).

For covering surfaces with the cladding material, first a chassis is prepared, which is fixed onto a wall or ceiling with screws with or without dowels, depending on the material of the ceiling or wall. The chassis can be prepared from metal, plastic, wood, or other similar material.

The distances between the chassis and cladding material are unimportant. It is important that the cladding material is installed as close to the wall as possible to avoid loss of space; the distance between the ceiling and the covering fixed on the ceiling depends on the requests of the client. The sizes of the chassis need to be optimal, considering the properties of the cladding material (especially the weight) and dimensions of the room.

The stretching elements for stretching the cladding material can be long bars/rods of any shape. The weight of the stretching elements depends on the characteristics of the cladding material (how much weight is necessary for the cladding material to stay stretched). The edge of the cladding material is turned around the bar/rod, and then the edge is sewn up. Gluing the edge can also be applied. The stretching elements are at the edge of the textile around the perimeter of the whole room and at both parallel edges in case of a ceiling.

Fig 1 shows a covering the wall 1 and ceiling 5 of the room with cladding material 2, 6 according to the invention. Chassis 4 shown on Fig 1 .1 is attached to the ceiling 5 of the room, its certain ends support the material 6 in such a way that it hangs over the chassis 4 by means of the stretching element 3. Chassis 4 forms a kind of socket for the stretching elements 3. The other end of the chassis 4 is attached to the ceiling 5 from the fixing point 7.

While covering the ceiling 5, the stretching elements 3 are attached to the parallel ends of the cladding material 6, both ends with the stretching element 3 are turned over the end of the chassis 4 and the stretching element 3 is left to hung in such a way that by the weight of the stretching element 3 the cladding material 6 is stretched under the ceiling 5.

While covering the wall 1 , the stretching element 3 is attached to the upper end of the cladding material 2. The bottom end of the cladding material 2 is stationarily fixed near to the floor 9 with a fixing device 8. Fig 2 shows the covering the ceiling 5 of the room with the cladding material 6 according to the invention, where chassis 4 shown on Fig 2.1 is attached to the ceiling 5 of the room. The chassis 4, which is meant only for covering the ceiling 5, is missing an end that supports the cladding material 2 of wall 1 .

Fig 3 shows the covering the walls 1 of the room with cladding material 2, where a chassis 4 shown on Fig 3.1 is attached to the wall 1 of the room near to the ceiling 5. The chassis 4, which is meant only for covering the wall 1 , is missing an end that supports the cladding material 6 of the ceiling 5.

Covering the walls 1 and ceilings 5 of the rooms with the cladding material 2, 6 according to the invention is performed as follows: from the fixing point 7 the chassis 4 is attached to the ceilings 5 or walls 1 of the room according to whether it is preferred to cover the wall 1 , ceiling 5 or both. Thereafter, the desired cladding material 2, 6 is installed, onto which stretching elements 3 are previously attached. Stretching elements 3 are attached to the cladding material 2, 6 by sewing. For ceilings 5, the stretching elements 3 are attached to the ends of the cladding material 6 as shown on Fig 2. For walls 1 , the stretching elements 3 are attached to the upper ends of the cladding material 2 and the bottom end of the cladding material 2 is stationarily fixed with a fixing device 8 as is shown on Fig 3. With one type of chassis 4, it is possible to install together the coverings of both the horizontal as well as vertical surfaces, as can be seen on Fig 1 .

Fig 5 show the construction of the chassis 4 console according to the present invention where of the console comprises horizontal upper fixing element 47 which is attached to the ceiling 5. The console further comprises the vertical element 41 attached perpendicularly to the upper fixing element 47. Both elements are fixed to each other in addition with supporting element 46 which makes console more rigid. To the vertical element 41 are fixed frame supporting elements 42 and 43. The lower frame element 44 is fixed to the underside of the lower supporting element 42, to the upper part of the lower supporting element is fixed the upper frame element 45 whish support in addition the ceiling cladding material when cladding material having in its end the stretching element is attached and stretched.

To the horizontal element 41 is fixed upper supporting element 43 to which upper side is fixed the upper frame element for supporting the wall cladding material. In Fig 6 and 7 are shown the chassis 4 console elements in isometric view without gladding material and with cladding material. As shown in the figures the ceiling cladding material 6 end having the stretching element 3 is placed into lower supporting element 42 and it is stretched over upper frame element 45 and over lower frame element 44 both attached and fixed to the lower supporting element 42. The wall cladding material 2 end having the stretching element 3 is placed into upper supporting element 43 and stretched over upper frame element 45. The lower end of the wall ceiling material is fixed with fixing element 8 to the lower border of the wall.

In the figures Fig 8, 9 and 10 are shown isometric views of the whole chassis 4 having plurality of the chassis console elements 47 fixed for example to the ceiling, plurality of the lower and upper frame elements 44, 45 fixed to the supporting elements 42, 43 of the console elements 47. The figure Fig 10 illustrates the attachment of the cladding material to the chassis 4.
