Abstract:
This HUD apparatus is mounted on a vehicle and projects an image onto the windshield, thereby displaying the image as a virtual image so the occupant can visually recognize the image. The HUD apparatus comprises a plurality of illumination units (10) that are mutually arranged and that perform illumination and an image forming unit (30) having illumination target surfaces (32), wherein each of the illumination units (10) illuminates a corresponding part of respective illumination target surfaces (32) to form an image. Each of the illumination units (10) comprises a light emitting element (12) for emitting illumination light in a radiation angle distribution in which the emission intensity decreases in accordance with deviation from a peak direction (PD) where the emission intensity reaches a maximum and light collecting units (14) that are arranged to face the light emitting elements (12) and that capture a partial radiation flux including the light of the peak direction PD of the illumination light and collimating it by condensing.
