The objective of the invention is to provide a head-up display device with which deterioration can be suppressed by blocking external light with an inexpensive structure and improving heat-shielding effects. To achieve the aforementioned objective, this vehicular head-up display device which projects a virtual image comprises: an image projection unit that projects an image to be displayed as a virtual image; a light-modulating mirror film that reflects the image projected by the image projection unit; and a light-modulating mirror film on/off control unit that switches the light-modulating mirror film between a transmissive state and a mirror state. By switching the light-modulating mirror film to the mirror state by the light-modulating mirror film on/off control unit, the image reflected by the light-modulating mirror film is projected as a virtual image via a windshield of the vehicle. By switching the light-modulating mirror film to the transmissive state by the light-modulating mirror film on/off control unit, irradiation of the image projection unit by external light is blocked.
