Abstract:

The present invention provides a head-up display capable of preventing the generation of stray light from the edge surface by a method other than black painting. The present invention provides a head-up display (100) that displays an image as a virtual image (I) to an observer (D). The head-up display (100) has a projection optical system (140) that projects an enlarged image. The projection optical system (140) has a lens element (123) and a reflecting mirror (125). When a light beam that reaches the center of a viewpoint region (300) of the observer (D) and corresponds to the center of the virtual image (I) is taken as a reference light beam (Lc), the lens element (123) is arranged to be inclined with respect to the reference light beam (Lc), the lens element (Lc) includes an incident surface on which image light is incident, an emission surface from which the image light is emitted, a first edge portion (123a), and a second edge portion (123b). The second edge portion (123b) is inclined so that when the light emitted from the image proceeds in the order of the incident surface, the second edge portion (123b), and the emission surface, the light emitted from the emission surface reaches below the central portion of the reflecting mirror (125).
