Abstract:
The invention is concerned with a heat-driven power generation system, with an engine (18) having a variable volume working chamber, and with a working fluid for use in an engine. The heat -driven power generation system comprises an engine having a variable volume working chamber (24, 26) which is connectable to a working fluid inlet (27) for supply of pressurised, vaporised working fluid to the working chamber, to a condensing fluid injection port (40, 42) for injection of condensing fluid to the working chamber, and an exhaust. A mechanism is provided through which the expansion and contraction of the working chamber is used to do useful work. The exhaust is arranged to permit the resultant mixture of the working fluid and the condensing fluid to be exhausted from the working chamber. The system further comprises a separation device which is connectable to the engine's exhaust to receive the mixture of the working fluid and the condensing fluid and to separate the two liquids. Working fluid is provided via a first separation device output to a heat exchanger. In the heat exchanger (12) the working fluid receives heat energy from an external source and is thereby vaporised and pressurised. The vaporised and pressurised working fluid is supplied to the working fluid inlet of the engine. Condensing fluid output from the separation device is conducted to the condensing fluid injection port.
