Abstract:
A method for exchanging heat between a pipeline (38) and an earth heat exchanger (36) including flowing a heat transfer fluid through an earth loop (32) or conduit extending from an earth surface down into the earth at a desired location with a desired earth temperature; emplacing heat exchange device with respect to a pipeline portion of a pipeline (38) and flowing the heat exchange fluid in heat exchange relation with the heat exchange device to transfer heat between the pipeline portion and the heat transfer fluid. A second method is for providing heat transfer fluid flowing in a conduit or a loop (102) extending through materials having at least two different temperatures to a rig (R2) involved in wellbore operations.
