Title:
HEAT EXCHANGER WITH PARALLEL FLOWING FLUIDS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2002001134
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A heat exchanger (16) uses a plurality of stacked plate pairs (30) consisting of face-to-face mating plates (32) with each plate (32) having a peripheral flanges (34, 35), annular inner and outer primary bosses (36, 38) and annular secondary bosses (44, 46). Intermediate areas (40) between the inner and outer primary bosses (36, 38) have spaced-apart portions to form inner flow passages (42). Both the primary and secondary bosses have openings (57, 60) formed therein for the passage of heat exchanging fluids. In back-to-back plate pairs (30), the secondary bosses (44, 46) are joined and the openings (59, 60) therein communicate to define manifolds (62, 64) for a second of these fluids. The inner and outer primary bosses include radially extending ribs (76) forming cross-over passages that permit the second fluid to flow across the primary bosses (36, 38) and through the inner flow passage (42).
