A heat exchanger (1) is provided with a pair of tanks (2) arranged so as to be spaced from each other and extending in the vertical direction, heat exchange pipes (4) arranged next to each other between both the tanks (2) so as to be spaced from each other in the vertical direction, and a vertically extending tubular liquid receiver (7) mounted to either of the tanks (2). A refrigerant inlet (31) and a refrigerant outlet (32) are provided to the liquid receiver (7) so as to be spaced from each other in the vertical direction with the refrigerant inlet (31) located above the refrigerant outlet (32). A partition member (41) for partitioning the inside of the liquid receiver (7) into the upper and lower segments is provided in the liquid receiver (7) at a height between the refrigerant inlet (31) and the refrigerant outlet (32). An overflow pipe (44) is provided to the partition member (41), and the overflow pipe (44) allows, when the level of the refrigerant in the segment (42) above the partition member (41) in the liquid receiver (7) reaches a specified level, the refrigerant to flow to the segment (43) below the partition member (41). The heat exchanger (1) has an improved gas-liquid separation effect.
