This heat pump water heater comprises: a refrigerant circuit in which a refrigerant circulates through a refrigerant pipe; a water circuit in which water circulates in a water pipe; and a control device that controls equipment installed in the refrigerant circuit and the water circuit. The refrigerant circuit has a main circuit and a bypass circuit. The main circuit has a compressor, a water heat exchanger for heat exchange between the refrigerant and water, a first decompression device, an air heat exchanger, and a blower. The bypass circuit forms a flow path connecting the refrigerant pipe between the compressor and the water heat exchanger and the refrigerant pipe between the air heat exchanger and the compressor, and has a second decompression device that adjusts the refrigerant flow rate. The water circuit has: a hot water storage tank; a water pump that supplies water flowing out of the hot water storage tank to the water heat exchanger and supplies water flowing out of the water heat exchanger to the hot water storage tank; and a water heat exchanger. In nighttime water heating mode, the control device operates the water pump at a preset minimum frequency, operates the compressor at a preset minimum frequency, and stops the blower.
