Title:
HEAT-RESISTANT CAST IRON TYPE METALLIC SHORT FIBER, AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2011/145194
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Disclosed are: a heat-resistant cast iron type metallic short fiber which can be used in a composite material to improve heat resistance, seize resistance, oxidation resistance, high-temperature strength or abrasion resistance of the composite material, is homogeneous and therefore has little variations in size, has excellent cutting properties suitable for cutting by chatter vibration cutting processes and excellent round bar casting properties, and can be provided at relatively low cost; and a process for producing the cast iron type metallic short fiber. The heat-resistant cast iron type metallic short fiber has the following chemical composition (in wt%): 1.0 to 2.5% of C, 2.0 to 6.0% of Si, 0.01 to 4.0% of Al (wherein the sum total of Si and Al is 3.0 to 7.0%), 0.1 to 1.0% of Mn, and at least one of Mg and Ca in an amount of 0.003 to 0.1%, with the remainder being Fe. The metallic short fiber has a spherical graphite cast iron structure which has spherical graphite dispersed therein, and is cut by a chatter vibration cutting process.
