Title:
HEAT-RESISTANT AND HIGHLY TOUGH ALUMINUM ALLOY AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF AND ENGINE PARTS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2005/054529
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A heat-resistant and highly tough aluminum alloy, which has a chemical composition, in mass %, that silicon: 10 to 16 %, iron: 1 to 3 %, nickel: 1 to 2 %, one or more of titanium, zirconium, chromium and vanadium: 0.5 to 3 % in total, copper: 0.6 to 3 %, magnesium: 0.2 to 2 %, and the balance: substantially aluminum, is produced by compacting an aluminum alloy powder prepared by a gas atomization method, and has an average grain diameter of silicon of 4 μm or less; a method for producing the heat-resistant and highly tough aluminum alloy; and engine parts comprising the alloy. The above aluminum alloy offers good balance of the strength at a temperature from room temperature to about 300°C and ductility, and also exhibits high fracture toughness.
