Abstract:
A heat-treatment furnace is provided which enables nitriding of stable quality to be maintained over long. The heat-treatment furnace is used for halogenating and nitriding a steel material by heating the material in a given atmosphere and has a structure therein which is exposed to a treatment space where the nitriding is conducted, the surface of the structure being constituted of a material that is an alloy comprising 50-80 mass% nickel and 0-20 mass% iron. Due to the constitution, the surface of the structure in the furnace is unsusceptible to nitriding. The halogenation and nitriding of works can be stably conducted over long, and nitride layers suitable for respective purposes can be stably formed on all steel materials including steels difficult to nitride.
