Abstract:
A heating pad that alleviates the symptoms of shoulder stiffness, backache, muscular fatigue, cramps, excessive sensitivity to cold, etc., finding especially suitable application in alleviation of the symptoms of cramps; and a method of using the same. There is provided a heating pad comprising packing materials and, interposed therebetween, an exothermic composition molding resulting from molding of a moldable exothermic composition wherein excess water is used as a coupling substance, the exothermic composition molding heat sealed at its periphery, characterized in that the packing materials are each composed of a base material and a covering material; and that the base material is substantially planar, having no accommodation pocket; and that the heat seal is streaked so as to form segmenting parts; and that multiple heating parts segmented by the heat seal are disposed via segmenting parts; and that the moldable exothermic composition exhibits a water content of 1 to 60 wt.%, comprising a coagulation auxiliary, a drying binding agent, a coagulant, an adhesive binder, iron powder, a carbon component, a reaction accelerator and water as indispensable components, wherein neither thickening agent nor vehicle is contained; and that excess water is contained so as to exhibit a mobile water value of 0.01 to 20; and that the water of the moldable exothermic composition does not function as a barrier layer; and that an exothermic reaction occurs upon contact with air; and that in a plane orthogonal to the direction of thickness of the heating pad, there is a region of ≥ 2 bending resistance ratio between orthogonal directions; and that at least part of the heating pad has air permeability; and that at least part of exposed area of the heating pad is fitted with fixing means.
