Abstract:

A pneumatic tire has blocks (6) in the tread surface (1), the blocks (6) being defined by circumferential grooves (2) continuously extending in the circumferential direction of the tread and by transverse grooves (5) open respectively to the circumferential grooves (2) adjacent to the transverse grooves (5) in the width direction of the tread. Each of the blocks (6) is provided with one or more shallow grooves (7-9) having an average depth less than the depth of the circumferential grooves (2) adjacent to the block (6). The average depth of the shallow grooves (7-9) is set to be greater than 20% of the depth of the circumferential grooves (2) and to be less than 80% of the depth of the circumferential grooves (2). In each of the blocks (6), at least one of the shallow grooves (7-9) is open to either the transverse grooves (5) adjacent to the block (6) and/or the circumferential grooves (2) adjacent to the block (6).
