Abstract:
The present invention addresses the issue of providing a method for recovering heavy rare earth elements from a subject to be processed that includes at least heavy rare earth elements and iron group elements, the method being able to be implemented as a low cost and simple recycling system. The method according to the present invention for recovering heavy rare earth elements from a subject to be processed that includes at least heavy rare earth elements and iron group elements is characterised in that the method at least includes a step in which, after the subject to be processed has been subjected to an oxidation treatment, or after the subject to be processed has been mixed with a R-Fe-B magnet alloy that has been subjected to an oxidation treatment, the subject to be processed is heat treated at a temperature of at least 1000°C in the presence of carbon, and thus heavy rare earth elements are separated, as oxides, from the iron group elements.
